Admittedly, Christmas isn’t my favourite time of year, but as I’ve gotten older, it feels like some of the magic has disappeared from the festive season. I’ll admit, that’s probably down to me and my lack of effort when it comes to feeling Christmassy. This year, though, I’m determined to create a festive season vibe, because it really is all about how the season feels.
If you’re feeling the same way and want to bring a little Christmas joy back into your life before the year ends, there are plenty of ways to do it. Light the candles, hang the fairy lights, and decorate your space with touches that make you smile. But don’t stop there, get out and join in with the season. Visit Christmas markets, go ice skating, or grab a hot chocolate with friends after work. Do something kind for someone else; donate a little, volunteer your time, or simply send a thoughtful message to someone who needs it. Those are the moments that really bring the festive spirit to life. The more you participate, give, and slow down to notice the magic around you, the more you’ll feel that true festive season vibe settle in.
Set the mood at home
The easiest way to build a festive season vibe is to start right where you are, at home. You don’t need to go full Santa’s grotto to make it feel special; it’s all about the little details that make your space warm and inviting. Think soft lighting, fairy lights wrapped around mirrors or shelves, the scent of cinnamon or pine drifting through the air, your favourite cosy blanket within reach and some minimal Christmas decorations.
Music is great for changing your vibe, so put on a playlist that instantly puts you in the festive mood. My go-to has always been Mariah Carey and her legendary Christmas tunes! Let it play while you tidy, cook, and relax.
Light a candle before you sit down for the evening, or add a few decorations that make you smile when you walk into the room. These simple touches instantly shift the energy and help you slow down enough to feel the season.
The goal isn’t perfection, it’s comfort and putting you in the mood for festivities. Your home doesn’t have to look like a Pinterest board (even though, let’s be honest, that’s always tempting). It just needs to feel like a safe, cosy little haven where you can unwind, breathe, and let that festive season vibe naturally settle in.

Get dressed for the festive season vibe
Once your space feels cosy, it’s time to set the mood for yourself. The quickest way to tap into that festive season vibe is through what you wear, not necessarily sequins and glitter (unless that’s your thing), but those little touches that make you feel good. Simple touches like a bold red lip or shimmering nails instantly lift your mood and say ‘festive season’. It’s about comfort and confidence. You don’t have to wait for parties or big occasions to dress up a little. Wear your favourite jumper to run errands, add a sparkly hair clip just because, or swap your usual jeans for some leather trousers.
It’s amazing how much your outfit can shift your mindset, especially when it reflects the energy you want to feel.
If you love dressing up, lean into it. If you’re all about loungewear, make it intentional: matching sets, cosy fabrics, and a hint of seasonal colour. Getting dressed for the vibe is about choosing to show up for the season.
Festive thing’s to do
Participating in festive activities will get you in the mood for the festive season, activities such as ice skating, visiting Christmas markets and a winter wonderland are great but you don’t always have to spend lots of money, it’s about finding little moments that make the season feel special, so I have curated a list that include low cost ideas and fun things to splurge on if you fancy it!
1. Get you bake on
Try mince pies, gingerbread cookies, or anything that makes your home smell like Christmas. Simple, cheap, and full of comfort. You don’t have to be an experienced baker either, in fact I’d encourage it even more if you don’t usually bake as there are plenty of simple and easy to follow recipes out there!
2. Have a festive movie marathon
Is it even Christmas if you don’t watch your favourite festive movies? My personal favourite is Home Alone 😉 Grab a blanket, make hot chocolate, and settle in with your favourite feel-good classics. (You can even invite friends or your partner to join you!
3. Visit a Christmas market
This one might cost a little, but it’s worth it for the atmosphere and to get you in the festive season vibe. Bright lights, mulled wine, and handmade gifts everywhere. It’s a great way to socialise with your friends and family, and you can even go with your partner!
4. Go ice skating
It’s such a classic winter activity, fun, a bit silly, and perfect for date nights or catching up with friends.
5. Host a festive night in
Invite your favourite people round, make a pot of mulled wine, and play board games or do a cookie swap, low-cost and full of laughter.
6. Do a little Christmas shopping
It’s so tempting to just do your shopping online for convenience, but if you want to create festive season vibes, then you may want to head into town, grab a coffee, and make a day of it. Even if you don’t need to get a lot, the energy will certainly make you feel Christmassy!
7. Give back
Volunteer at a local charity, donate to a food bank, or do one small act of kindness. Christmas is all about spreading joy to others, so it’s the ultimate feel-good way to tap into the spirit of the season.
8. Treat yourself to a beauty treatment
No better time to pamper yourself with a beauty treatment than the festive period, get your nails done, a pedicure, facial or even your eyelash extensions, it is the party season after all.
9. Spend a quiet morning journaling
Reflect on your year, your goals, or just list what you’re grateful for. Sometimes peace and perspective are the best gifts.
10. Attend festive social events
Nothing says festive season like the social gatherings. Christmas parties will get you right in the festive spirit, so make sure you make an effort to attend social gatherings!

A word from Daisy In The Dust
The festive season isn’t about ticking off a to-do list or having the most decorated home, it’s about how you feel. It’s the quiet, cozy moments mixed with bursts of joy; the smell of something baking, laughter with people you love, and the comfort of slowing down after a busy year.
Your festive season vibe doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Maybe it’s wrapping up in blankets and rewatching your favourite films, or maybe it’s getting dressed up and heading out to every Christmas market you can find. However you choose to spend it, the magic comes from being present, from noticing the glow of the lights, the taste of your hot chocolate, or the softness of a moment shared.
So this year, don’t chase perfection. Just create small moments that feel good, and let that gentle, joyful energy build on its own. That’s the real festive season vibe, fun, quiet, cosy, and completely yours.
